Technologies that make the difference The CSEM Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology, founded in 1984, is a research and development center (public-private partnership) specializing in microtechnology, nanotechnology, microelectronics, system engineering, photovoltaics and communications technologies.

Around 450 highly qualified specialists from various scientific and technical disciplines work for CSEM in Neuchâtel, Zurich, Muttenz, Alpnach, and Landquart.

CSEM SA is a private non-profit-making organization for research and development. Our mission is to coach and support industrial companies and start-ups in their innovation process.

CSEM plays an essential role in the innovation value chain by encouraging durable progress through the center’s links with academic institutions and the business world. The center’s operating model is based on a public–private partnership. This unique relationship with the Swiss Confederation gives the company a greater flexibility to address broad ranges of applied research areas to face the challenges of tomorrow, to pursue its commitment to innovation, and finally to ensure economic stimuli even in times of crisis.

CSEM efficiently complements the activities of EPFL (in Lausanne and Zurich), universities including university hospitals, and HES (universities of applied sciences). By bringing to maturity the technologies initiated by its academic partners, CSEM gives all of Swiss industry access to the best of Swiss research. In this way, CSEM ensures rapid and concrete technology transfer. CSEM-developed technological platforms offer industry a great number of solutions that answer market needs and expectations - from healthcare, watchmaking, aerospace, and security, to consumer electronics, food, energy and environment.

The Microcity network brings the key stakeholders in innovation, design, training, research, and technology together in Neuchâtel. Its member organizations and institutions work together in reaction to industrial transformations, offering a ‘lab-to-fab’ collaborative space in order to meet the challenges of this new industrial revolution.
